WhatsApp Setup

Connect your WhatsApp Business account to Ares using Quick Connect (OAuth) or Advanced manual setup.

Connect WhatsApp to your Ares AI agent so customers can reach you on the world's most popular messaging platform.

Connection Methods

Ares supports two ways to connect WhatsApp:

The fastest way to get started — uses Meta's OAuth flow:

  1. Go to Omnichannel in the sidebar
  2. Click Add ChannelWhatsApp
  3. Select Quick Connect
  4. Click Connect with Meta — you'll be redirected to Meta's authorization page
  5. Log in with your Meta Business account and grant permissions
  6. Once authorized, your WhatsApp number will appear as an active channel

After connecting, you'll see:

  • Verification Status — whether your number is verified
  • Quality Rating — Meta's rating of your messaging quality
  • Messaging Limit — your current sending tier
  • Business Display Name — how your business appears to customers

Advanced Setup

For custom configurations using your own Meta API credentials or Twilio:

  1. Go to OmnichannelAdd ChannelWhatsAppAdvanced
  2. Choose your provider: Meta (direct) or Twilio
  3. Enter your API credentials:
    • For Meta: App ID, API Token, Phone Number ID, Business Account ID
    • For Twilio: Account SID, Auth Token, Phone Number
  4. Configure webhook URLs (shown on the setup page):
    • Meta webhook: /v1/webhooks/whatsapp
    • Twilio webhook: /v1/webhooks/twilio/whatsapp/{tenantId}
    • Twilio status callback: /v1/webhooks/twilio/status/{tenantId}
  5. Click Save to activate the channel

Monitoring

Once connected, check the channel health on the Omnichannel page. Green status means messages are flowing correctly.

Troubleshooting

  • Yellow status — channel is connected but not receiving messages. Check your webhook configuration
  • Gray status — channel is disconnected. Re-authenticate via Quick Connect or verify API credentials
  • Quality rating dropping — review your messaging patterns; Meta may throttle accounts with low quality scores
